Well as we know we can't control the seasons, but we can make sure we still carry on the fun we had during the holiday months.

New Online platform Adventure

Hello!

After a very tiring, yet exciting show at Tent London last week, the fun doesn't stop for me over at LF HQ, as this week I am promoting a great online platform (which LF is apart of!) called Created Bespoke.

Created Bespoke provides a unique opportunity for customers to engage with exceptional design and craft and to commission bespoke work directly from artists, designers and makers, and is set set to launch at the end of this month.

Check out their two minute video of me, talking the talk about my business...!

As well as video recording earlier this month I also answered some questions for the Created Bespoke blog

Read here about my commission based projects and why I think commissions play a big part in the world of artists and designers...

Save The Date - Hampstead Craft Fair

Behind the scenes at Laura Felicity I am busy getting ready new wallpaper designs and fabric ranges for Tent Trade Show in September, plus I have been busy giving my website a little facelift - take a look!

However, we still don't want to forget about August though! And whilst most of us will be jetting away to somewhere hot to relax and soak up the rays over the Summer Holidays, there will be some of us (me included) who are staying in the UK.

And what better way to forget about not going on holiday by coming over to Hampstead on Saturday 17th August, walking around the heath, have a drink or two, and visit me at the Hampstead Craft Fair!

I will be selling my screen print products along with other local designers from a range of disciplines for one day only!

On display and for sale will be my range of homewares including my Pretty Flower Cushion which is currently On Sale for £37.50 (Bargain!).  New to the scene pin cushions, plus some sample Gift Wrap Sheets for only £1.

I will also be spreading the Workshop Word about my workshops I hold locally and in Farringdon.  If you would like to hear and see images of the workshops, would like to know dates and info, or even book yourself on a one, then at the Fair is a good place to ask!

Craft Fairs are a great way to support your independent designer, plus support the community, so please put the date in your diary and come on by!

You Only Live Once #YOLO

Hi all,

I realise I haven't been on the blogging scene of late...well any social media scene really, and there is a reason for this...I'm not just being lazy :-)

I wish I could say it is because I'm manic busy and there's been hardly anytime to sit down and write, or something more fabulous, but the truth is I haven't been very well.

Last week I was diagnosed with Tonsillitis and was put on antibiotics, told to take a few days out of my busy work life and rest! (How hard that was, I can't even begin to tell you!)

A day after I was diagnosed I began to feel worse, my medication wasn't working and I wasn't able to eat anything, drink or even swallow saliva...this surely wasn't a sign of tonsillitis getting better or remotely improving?

Luckily my Fab Dad took the initiative and rang up my GP to say my symptoms had worsened over the night and nothing was going down, to which they told him to take me straight to A&E where I would be referred to the ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) department straight away.

Within an hour I was hooked up to a drip, paracetamol and steroids were being pumped into my system to ease the pain (slightly!).  Then I was placed onto a ward where I would be staying for the next three nights-unknown to me at the time.

When I was first admitted into the hospital as an 'in-patient' I had to go the ENT specialist to have an Endoscopy.  Well, whoever says they've had this and it doesn't hurt, is lying!

My throat was so swollen that the tiniest movement they made was extremely painful and it took four attempts to get this thing through my nose and down my throat to have a look, it was the longest 10 seconds of my life.  And yes I was crying like a baby...not my finest moment!

What the doctor saw during the examination was not Tonsillitis as diagnosed the previous day by my GP, but an infected swallow passage, which is why I couldn't do anything except breath to prevent the pain!

The infection was that bad that every time I swallowed I'd feel razor sharp and burning pains going down my throat, to which even something smooth like mashed potato couldn't get by.
Plus even talking made the infection worse as the voice box is next to your swallow passage, which vibrates up to 100 times per noise you make, meaning the infection gets irritated by sound and talking, preventing the healing.

That was last Tuesday 4th June, and for three nights I was IV-ed up to saline and medication drips to get me through the infection.  On Friday 7th June I was finally released to go home, eat and rest up.

One week on and I'm still not 100%! I honestly didn't realise at the time how serious the infection was, and how much it takes it out of you to get over it.
Once I was discharged and given my medication to take home I honestly thought I would be resting over the weekend and back to normal work on Monday morning.

How wrong I have been!

This infection really has sent my body into a bit of shock.  It has completely changed the way I eat.  I hadn't eaten properly for over 5 days whilst first being ill to being taken in to hospital, and now I can only take small amounts as I get full easily, or feel sick from the medication.  Yet a few hours later I need to eat again.

I'm exhausted! My body is concentrating so hard on fighting this infection still, that even an hour of socialising or trying to do work absolutely knackers me out.  I have to nap throughout the day, which I don't like to do, and I'm in bed by 10 o'clock to get a good night's sleep.

From this I have decided to take a couple of weeks off to make a full recovery...

Even though my head is saying 'No, there is so much to do in the business', my body and heart are saying if I don't take time off I will end up not making a full recovery and being back to where I was before.  If not with a severe throat infection, then something just as serious.

I know at the time I fell ill I thought it was purely just an illness, but now I've had time to think about it, I believe I may have made this infection as bad as it has been.

Over the past month or so I have been pushing myself to the limit in terms of work and personal life due to just wanting to drive my life and business forward, which at this time in my life it feels that everyone else round me is doing;  whether it be marriage, babies, moving homes, pay rises, etc.

This unfortunately has caused a lot of stress upon me mentally and physically, and I believe that maybe if I hadn't been so forceful upon myself to make everything come together so quickly, then maybe my body would have had more strength to battle this infection quicker.

This illness has been a bit of a wake up call to me.
I realise that even though you want something immediately, time is still something you have to wait for and when it's ready it will give you what you have been thriving towards, and not any sooner!

So lovely readers of mine, let me be a lesson to you!
If you are one to create stress, take work a little too seriously and are in a rush to get to the next sage in your life, think about how this treats your health in terms of mind, body and soul.

Don't be too harsh on it, as health is one thing we really need to cherish in this world, because without it how would we get by and do the things we live and dream about doing.

Remember You Only Live Once #YOLO!
Cheers to good health!

Speak in a couple of weeks.

Best Wishes,

Laura Felicity x

P.s. I want to dedicate this blog post to all my fabulous family and friends, who have been there for me during this tough time, and shown their care and love to me in more ways that I can imagine! Thank you! xx

Love is Blind...

An exciting new project has been brewing behind the scenes of Laura Felicity, and now I'm happy to say I can reveal all!

Back in January when taking part in Home London's Trade Show, I was approached by a specialist Window Blind company based in the UK called S-Blinds, who have almost two decades experience in the blind industry including manufacturing, sales and management.

They had an idea to take made to measure blinds to the next step. They wanted to collaborate with several up and coming textile designers and work with their designs and translate them onto blinds.

'B-Inspired' is an exclusive collaboration with some of the most talented, inspirational designers in the UK that offer stunning hand drawn designs, each one recognised for their individual talent.

S-Blinds fully support and appreciate all the hard work that goes into each individual design and are proud to be displaying these designs on our products.

S-Blinds ethics behind running a British based business is very similar in how I like to run my own.  With all blinds produced here in the UK, all their collaborating designers are also British based, S-Blinds is all about choice.

The idea behind 'B-Inspired' is to offer something unique to window coverings. Most fabrics available in the market place at the moment are mass produced in China with designers getting no recognition for their hard work, this is something S-Blinds wants to be steer away from and raise awareness for the talented design we have based here in Britain.

So yes, you've guessed it they picked me out of seven other designers and now Laura Felicity now has a window blind range!

I'm very exciting about this venture, as I am always looking to develop the business and put my designs on to as many surfaces as I can.  Developing my designs onto window blinds is another perfect way for clients to have a Laura Felicity design within their home.

This exclusive collaboration is now in full swing, with already available colour ways to each design. The designers also provide a service to amend designs or colour alterations to suit customer requirements offering the ultimate bespoke service.

B-Inspired will make a fabulous feature in your home and can not be found in any high street store.

As this fabulous project develops I will post up images of the blinds in situe.

If in the meantime please take a closer look at S-Blind's site.
If have any enquiries or questions, please get in contact.

Best Wishes,

Laura Felicity

Love Is In The Air...

Hello all,

I hope you are having a lovely week.

Time is flying by again this week, especially since we had our extend weekend.  And once again I am a little delayed in getting this week's blog post out to you all.

But have no fear, I have finally delivered and I think you might slightly fall in love with what I'm about to show you.

A couple of months ago I posted about a Wedding Favour Commission I had taken on and posted up my inspirations behind the wedding favour bags.

Since then, the Wedding has been (and sadly gone!).  However, I have been able to capture the moment and taken some lovely photos of the finished articles of the favour bags I put together for the blushing bride and groom.

Whilst doing the favour bags, they also asked me to design and make their Name Place Cards and the Wedding Table Plan so everything tied in together.

I think they were right to do so, don't you...

Great News! I will shortly be introducing Bespoke Wedding Stationery to the website

In the meantime if you'd like any further information about how I can design bespoke stationery for you wedding, please get in touch!

Have a fabulous week.

Best Wishes,

Laura Felicity
